Wills and Testaments

There are two kinds of testaments: Open and Sealed.

To grant open wills the requirements are:

  1. The presence of the testate over the legal age of 18 bearing proper personal identification either a passport or Ecuadorian Identification Card.
  2. The presence of three witnesses with their corresponding identifications.
  3. A fee of US$100.00.

To grant sealed wills the requirements are:

  1. The presence of the testate over the legal age of 18 bearing proper identification either a passport or Ecuadorian Identification card.
  2. The testament to be brought in an envelope which thereafter will be sealed in presence of the Consul.
  3. The presence of five witnesses with their corresponding identifications.
  4. A fee of US$150.00.

The open will as well as the sealed will may be canceled by the testate at any time during his lifetime, as long as he or she maintains his or her mental sanity. For this purpose the testate should appear at the consulate bearing proper identification. The cancellation fee is US$50.00.
