Non-immigrant visas
VISA 12 - V. Student |
Applies for:
Students (at all levels, regular school year) and family members accompanying the student (wife, children).
Documents Required:
- Passport. (valid at least for the next six months)
- Doctor's certificate and HIV test, indicating that the person does not have any communicable diseases
- Police certificate indicating that there is no record (criminal) for said person
- Two recent photographs, passport size, in color, white background
- School registration or proof of admission to an Ecuadorian school or institution duly recognized by the Ministry of Education
- Copy of the Official Registry in Ecuador, indicating the legal constitution of the school
- Certificate from bank indicating good economic standing with letter from the parent/guardian indicating that they will support the student while in Ecuador.
Valid for:
One year
May be renewed when presenting:
- Passing grades
- Registration for the following year
- Police certificate
- Letter of economic support.

VISA 12 - VI. Work |
Applies for:
- Professionals of high technical levels
- Professionals of specialized fields
- Immediate family members accompanying the professional
In order to expedite the process, please read the requirements carefully.
Documents Required:
All documentation should be presented in their original form, if required, or properly legalized photocopies, in admissible cases, in a fastened folder. In the following order:
- "Aplicación de Visa" (Visa Application), typed and triplicated. For the dependent (Amparo) VISAS, information for family members should be included on the back side of the application.
- Attach to each application, 1 passport photo in color, white background. (3 total)
- Present a letter applying for a Visa, on a letterhead paper, signed by the interested party or the legal representative of the company who is sponsoring the individual (President, Manager, etc, who will be able to document your qualifications), detailing your reasons for applying for the Visa.
- Current certification R.U.C. "Registro Unico de Contribuyente" of the sponsor.
- Current certification of fulfillment of obligations and legal existence of the company, issued by the Superintendents of Companies (Superintendencia de Compañias).
- Actualized certification stating that the sponsor does not have pending obligations with the Social Security Office (IESS).
- Authorization to work issued by the Ministry of Labor or Certification that this is not required.

- Work contract registered in the Department of Labor ("Dirección de Trabajo" in Ecuador),
- Or appointment as President, Manager or other official, properly registered with the Business Bureau Office ("Registro Mercantil").
- Or original letter of sponsorship from the main headquarters, legalized by an Ecuadorian Consulate; it needs to be translated into Spanish if the original is in a foreign language.
- Or, if this is a civil contract offering professional services, it should be properly registered with a civil judge or a notary.
- Certificate of Incorporation of the company, properly registered with the Business Bureau Office ("Registro Mercantil").
- When soliciting the Visa, Passport must be valid for at least 6 months, in the folder please include the original and a photocopy of the passport.
- In order to apply for a Visa 12-VI in Ecuador, you must have a current Visa issued by a consulate, or a current visa issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ("Dirección General de Asuntos Migratorios y Extranjería"), this Visa must have been registered (within 30 days of your arrival in Ecuador) in the Ministry of Government ("Dirección General de Extranjerìa del Ministerio de Gobierno") (Ave. 10 de Agosto and Murgeon).
- Those foreign citizens who wish to obtain work Visas and have entered Ecuador with a registered transit Visa by airport or on the border (Visas T3, T2, must return to the place of origin or residence, in order to obtain a consular Visa.
- In order to obtain dependent (Amparo) Visas for applicant's family members you must enclose the following: a marriage certificate, if applying for a spouse, or a birth certificate for each child. All documents must be properly legalized with an "Apostille".
- A university or a technical degree, properly legalized with an "Apostille" in the country of origin is required, if in another language it must be previously translated into Spanish. A resume must be presented in order to confirm the qualifications of the applicant.
- For Colombian citizens in all cases, apart from these requirements, it is also imperative that you present a police record ("Pasado Judicial"), which must be legalized in the Ministry of Foreign Relations in Bogotá (with "Apostille").
- For citizens of other countries, a police record is required from your country of origin or your country of residence.
NOTES
a. IF IN ECUADOR: After two business days of having solicited the Visa with the proper and complete documentation, the interested party should approach the Consulate where the Visa was solicited in order to know the outcome and to pick up the payment authorization if this be the case.
b. The cost of the application is US$30.00.
c. The cost of the Visa is US$200.00 for the applicant and US$50.00 for the dependents.
d. Citizens of Colombia, Spain and Paraguay, in accordance with an agreement, will only pay the value of the application, that of US$30.00.
e. The process takes 7 business days from the moment the payment for the Visa is authorized.
f. THE ECUADORIAN IMMIGRATION LAW GIVES AMPLE POWER TO THE PROPER AUTHORITY TO SOLICITE WHICHEVER OTHER DOCUMENTATION THAT IS DEEMED NECESSARY.

VISA 12 – VII. Voluntary, Religious, or Missionary |
Applies for:
- Missionaries
- Volunteers
- Religious persons
Documents Required:
- "Aplicación de Visa" Visa Application completed and signed
- "Certificado de Visación" completed and signed.
- Passport, valid for at least six months
- Two photos passport size, white background.
- Doctor's certificate and HIV test, indicating that the person does not have any communicable diseases.
- Police certificate indicating that there is no record
- Letter from Legal Representative of the entity requesting that the volunteer/missionary be admitted to Ecuador.
- Copy of the Decree issued by the Ecuadorian government authorizing the entity to operate in Ecuador.
- Copy of the appointment of the Legal representative of the entity duly registered and authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- Copy of the bylaws of the host entity in Ecuador.
- Affidavit from the host entity or person, assuming the responsibility for expenses incurred by the volunteer/missionary as result of abandoning the country or deportation, duly legalized.
- Affidavit from the foreigner certifying to render services at no charge.
- Guarantee from the sponsoring entity to support financially the foreigner during his/her stay in Ecuador.
Valid for:
-For priests or religious missionaries, up to two years
-For lay people, up to one year

VISA 12 – VIII. Cultural Exchange |
Applies for:
- Teachers involved in Cultural exchange programs (schools in Ecuador must have
bilateral agreements with schools in the US)
- Students participating in Cultural exchange programs
- Foreigners participating in the development of Cultural exchange programs.
Documents Required:
- "Aplicación de Visa" Visa Application completed and signed.
- "Certificado de Visación" completed and signed.
- Passport, valid for at least the next six months.
- Two photos passport size, white background.
- Doctor's certificate and HIV test, indicating that the person does not have any communicable diseases.
- Police certificate indicating that there is no record.
- Letter from Legal Representative of the Sponsoring Ecuadorian entity requesting that the person be admitted to Ecuador.
- Copy of the Official Registry in Ecuador, indicating the legal constitution of the entity.
- Copy of the appointment of the Legal representative of the entity duly registered.
- Copy of the bilateral Cultural Exchange Agreement.
- Affidavit from the host entity or person, assuming the responsibility for expenses incurred by the foreigner as result of termination of cultural exchange or deportation, duly legalized.
- Affidavit from the foreigner certifying to render services at no charge. (For teachers only).
- Guarantee from the sponsoring entity to support financially the foreigner during his/her stay in Ecuador.

Applies for:
- Tourists
- Professional players

Documents Required:
- "Aplicación de Visa" Visa Application completed and signed
- "Certificado de Visación" completed and signed
- Passport, valid for at least six months
- Doctor's certificate and HIV test, indicating that the person does not have any communicable diseases.
- Police certificate indicating that there is no record
- Copy of round trip ticket to Ecuador
- Bank letter stating that the person has good economic standing and can support himself.
- Two recent photographs in color, passport size, and white background
Valid For:
For more than 3 months and less than 6 months.
May be granted only once a year (as of the date the visa was granted)

VISA 12 – X. Transient, For short-term visitors |
Applies for:
Temporary visit (up to 90 days) for purposes such as tourism, sports, health, science, art or
commercial or business activities. This visa is required ONLY as provided for by agreement or reciprocity.
Only citizens of specific countries are currently required to secure a 12-X visa for a short-term visit to
Ecuador. Please go to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs listings to see which countries require visas.
Documents Required:
- Visa Application completed and signed
- A Passport, valid for at least the next 6 months
- Copy of the round trip ticket to Ecuador
- Copy of the green card or visa that allows the applicant to legally stay in the U.S.
- One picture (passport size)
- Certificate of Financial Responsibility. This is some evidence that sufficient funds are available from an identified and reliable source to defray expenses while in Ecuador (one of the following):
- Bank letter certifying that the application has an account with a level of monthly activity deemed satisfactory by the consular official
- Affidavit of support by the host entity, assuming responsibility for the expenses of the interested party during his/her stay in Ecuador
- Copy of invitation to participate in an event or to attend to business matters.

Maximum of 90 days
