Ecuadorian Contemporary Art Exhibit
The Embassy of Ecuador is honored to present the work of three outstanding Ecuadorian artists living in the United States.

Pablo Caviedes (New York), Agustín Patino (New England) and Katya Romero (Washington DC) bring their art to the nation´s capital as part of the celebrations of Ecuador´s Independence Day.
The Ecuadorian Contemporary Art Exhibit presents the work of these important artists in their cultural context and their historical changes.

The Embassy of Ecuador has organized a guided tour by the artists and would like to invite curators, art critics and the general public to visit the exhibit.

PABLO CAVIEDES

Born in 1971 in Cotacachi, Ecuador, Pablo has been exhibiting his work for the past twelve years in Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, Washington DC, New York, Columbia and various cities of Ecuador. He studied at the Art Institute in Paris and at the College of Fine Arts in Ecuador under Daniel Reyes. In 1994, he won the "Paris Prize" and in 1998 he became one of ten artists under 40 years of age chosen by a national jury as a finalist participate in the Latin American exhibition: "Latin America & the Caribbean: A New Generation of Artists." Recently, Pablo was among 25 artists in a competition whose works are now in a group show: "Art in a Bottle" at the Agora Gallery in Soho, NY. He lives in New York.

KATYA ROMERO

Born in Quito, Ecuador in 1962, she studied in the Fine Arts School in Ecuador and in Latin American Art Centers. She has been recognized with the 1st Mention of Honor at the BIENAL PAIZ ( 2001),  Guest  Artist at the “Biennial Centro Americana”, among others.  In 2002, the government of Ecuador honored her with a National Award for her contribution to the arts. In 2007 she was Guest Artist in the IX Bienal of Cuenca, Ecuador in a parallel show at Illescas Gallery. Her works are part of private and public Collections in Latin-American and United States.   Recently her artwork was chosen by a National Jury to be part on a “American Art Collector” book in the United States.  She is presently residing in Washington, DC.

Agustin Patino was born in Azuay, Ecuador in 1969. He studied Architecture at the Cuenca State University. He continued his studies at the Central University of Quito, where he earned a bachelor degree in Fine Arts in Painting and Printmaking. In 1995 he traveled to Europe to participate in various painting and mural workshops His first solo exhibit was in 1984 in Cuenca, Ecuador and marked the beginning of a fruitful artistic career that has taken him all over the world. His paintings are part of museums, private and corporate collections in Europe, the United States and Latin America. In 1993 he won the First Prize "LUIS A. MARTINEZ" in Ambato and the "Public Choice Award at the Fourth Pre Bienale Cuenca” . In 1994 he obtained the Honorable Mention Award at the Fourth International Cuenca Bienale. In 2002 he won the Senate Citation from the State of Rhode Island and in 2007 the First Prize "VIVA EL ARTE" in Worcester,Worcester Art Museum, Massachusetts. He resides in New England.
