SECRETARY GENERAL OF OAS REJECTS INFORMATION PUBLISHED IN NEWSPAPER "EL PAIS"

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Integration informs that on this date, José Miguel Insulza, Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), sent a letter to the Editor of the Spanish newspaper "El País", adamantly rejecting the existence of presumed statements made by an alleged official of the OAS, quoted in the news article "FARC find refuge in Ecuador," published on March 12.

In his letter, the Secretary General of the OAS states that the reference "is absolutely false", because no OAS official has made the statement reproduced in that news piece. The Secretary General of the OAS expressed his amazement to see El País incur "in a mistake of this type, which attempts against the truth, affects the prestige of a Government and harms the conciliatory efforts of our Organization."
